Can you tell us about your business and what inspired you to start it?

I run a niche perfumery business based in East Texas. It all began as a personal project to create fragrances for myself, friends, and family who have sensitivities to certain materials. I wanted to design products without unnecessary fillers that often cause irritation. Over time, this turned into crafting bespoke fragrances, room sprays, and more.

Initially, I started by showcasing my creations at small trade shows, and through word of mouth, my products gained traction. People loved that my fragrances were unique and gentle on sensitive skin. Although I began exploring the fragrance industry around 2005-2006, it wasn’t until 2011 that I officially created and launched my first product.

The name of my business is a meaningful combination of my favorite color, type of wood, and a connection to nature. I chose these elements to communicate my brand’s inclusive identity. The color "pink" symbolizes femininity, while "mahogany" conveys strength and masculinity. Together, they represent my focus on creating gender-neutral fragrances that appeal to everyone, though I also offer scents designed specifically for him or her.

How do you come up with your fragrance combinations for your products?

It really depends, but nature is one of my biggest inspirations. I spend a lot of time outdoors, enjoying the peace and quiet, and that often sparks ideas. I also draw inspiration from my customers and the people around me. Sometimes, I’ll even wake up with a new idea in mind—it’s an organic and intuitive process.

For example, I used to have an aversion to rose as a fragrance material. I thought it was a more mature scent, but once I started working with it, I discovered just how versatile it is. There are so many different types of roses, both from within the U.S. and internationally. Each variety has unique characteristics, and the ratios and dilutions you use can completely transform the final fragrance. I’ve come to enjoy challenging myself by working with scents I initially didn’t like, and it’s been an exciting way to grow creatively.

I’m also a musician, so creativity is a big part of who I am. Whether it’s through music or crafting fragrances, I’m always open to new sources of inspiration and enjoy exploring different ways to express myself.
